In elkaar zetten
Als je alle eindjes hebt weggewerkt en de vierkantjes hebt geblokt is het tijd om de deken in elkaar te zetten.
Voor het in elkaar zetten van de deken (en voor de rand) gebruikte ik de grote laatste streng van de advent. Ik haakte de vierkanten aan elkaar met halve vasten in de achterste lus. Sommige mensen haken bij halve vasten strakker dan anders. Als jij er een van bent vergeet dan niet te wisselen naar een iets grotere haaknaald!
De halve vasten maak je aan de goede kant van je werk, in de achterste lussen van de laatste ronde van de vierkanten. Wanneer je de vierkanten die je aan elkaar wilt haken met de achterkanten tegen elkaar houdt zijn de de achterste lussen de binnenste lussen van de laatste ronde.
Eerst haak je alle rijen aan elkaar (langs de paarse lijnen in het schema hieronder). Als de rijen aan elkaar zitten ga je verder met de kolommen (oranje lijnen in het schema).
Start in de hoeksteken van de eerste vierkanten, sla de eerste losse over en steek je naald door de achterste lussen van de 2e losse en de tegenoverliggende losse. Maak een halve vaste. Steek je naald door de achterste lussen van de volgende steek in beide vierkanten en maak opnieuw een halve vaste. Ga zo door langs de rand van het vierkant tot je bij de volgende hoek bent. Maak een halve vaste in de eerste hoeklosse, maak 1 losse, en ga verder in de hoeklosse van de volgende twee vierkanten in de rij.
Ga zo door tot je de hele rij aan elkaar hebt gehaakt. Knip de draad af en ga werk het eindje weg.
Wanneer alle rijen aan elkaar zitten ga je verder met de kolommen op dezelfde manier. Wanneer je bij een ‘kruispunt’ komt maak je eerst een halve vaste in de hoeksteek van de vierkanten die je net aan elkaar hebt gemaakt, daarna maak je een losse om de losse van het samenhaken van de rijen. Hierna ga je verder met het samenhaken van de volgende vierkanten.
Joining
If you haven’t done so already, weave in any remaining ends from your squares and block them.
For joining (and for the border) I used the last big skein from the advent. For this blanket, the squares are joined using a slip stitch method through the back loops. Some people make slip stitches tighter then other stitches: if you are one of them: switch to a bigger hook for the join!
The join is worked from the right side of the squares, and worked in the back loops of the last round of the squares. When the squares are held together ready to join (so with the wrong sides together), the back loops are the inside loops of the outside rounds.
Joining is done first in rows (along the purple lines in the chart above). When all the rows are added, you start making joins along each column (orange lines in the chart).
Start in the corner stitches of the first row, skip the first chain and insert your hook through the back loops of the second chains of the squares. Make a slip stitch. Insert your hook in the back loops of the next stitches and make a slip stitch again. Continue along the edge of the square, making slip stitches in the corresponding squares until you’ve reached the end of the square. Make a slip stitch in the first chain of the corner chains, chain 1, make a slip stitch in the second chains of the corner stitches of the next 2 squares.
Continue like this until you’ve joined the entire row, cut your yarn and weave in the end.
When you’ve joined all the rows, start joining the columns in the same way. When you reach in intersection, make a slip stitch in the first chain of the corner stitches of the squares you are joining, make a chain around the join of the rows and continue in the corner stitches of the next squares.
De rand
Als alle vierkanten aan elkaar zitten is het tijd om aan de rand te beginnen. Deze wordt gehaakt in rondes.
Aantal steken
Na ronde 2 van de rand is het handig om een stekenaantal te hebben van een meervoud van 4 + 3. Als er er 1 of 2 steken naast zit kan dat in ronde 3 nog wel gerepareerd worden.
Bijzondere steken
V-steek (v-st): (st, 1 l, 1 st) in dezelfde steek
Dubbele v-steek (dv-st): (2 st, 1 l, 2 st) in dezelfde steek
Ronde 1: De ronde wordt gehaakt in de achterste lussen. Hecht de draad aan in 1 van de 4 hoekruimtes en maak 1 v, 2 l, 1 v in de hoekruimte. Haak langs de hele rand 1 v in de achterste lus van elke steek of losse en een v in het einde van de hv waarmee je de vierkanten hebt samengehaakt. In de hoekruimtes haak je (1 v, 2 l, 1 v). Wanneer je helemaal rond bent sluit je de ronde met een hv in de 1e steek.
Ronde 2: Deze ronde wordt gehaakt in de 3e lus van de vasten van de vorige ronde. De 3e lus is aan de achterkant van de steek, het is de kleine horizontale lus net na de achterste lus van de steek. (zie de foto hieronder).
In de hoekruimte haak je 1 v, 2 l [telt als 1 st], 2 l, 2 st in dezelfde ruimte. Hierna haak je langs de hele rand een st in de 3e lus van elke steek, in de hoekruimtes haak je (2 st, 2 l, 2 st). Wanneer je terug bent bij de hoek waar je bent begonnen maak je een st in de hoekruimte en sluit je de ronde met een hv in de 2e l van het eerste st.
The border
Once you’ve finished joining the squares it is time to start on the border. The border is crocheted in rounds.
Stitch count
After round 2, it is best to have a stitch count of a multiple of 4 + 3, but if you are of 1 or 2 stitches that can be fixed in the next round.
Special stitches
V-stitch (v-st): (dc, ch 1, dc) in the same stitch
Dubble v-stitch (dv-st): (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in the same stitch
Round 1: This round is crocheted in the back loops only. Attach the yarn to any of the 4 corner spaces and make 1 sc, 2 ch, 1 sc in the corner space. Continue along the sides of the blanket making 1 sc in the back loop of every stitch and chain of each square and an sc in the end of each join between the squares. In the corners make (1 sc, 2 ch, 1 sc). Make a ss into the first stitch you’ve made .
Round 2: This round is crocheted in the third loop of the sc of the previous round. The third loop is on the back side of the stitch, it is the small horizontal loop right next to the back loop of the stitch (see photo).
For this round make an sc + 2 ch in the corner space [counts as 1 dc], ch 2, 2 dc in the same space. After this, make a dc in the third loop of every stitch, in the corners make (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc). If you are back at the corner you started this round, make a dc in the corner space and close with a ss in the first dc.
Rand—deel 2

Ronde 4: maak een v in de 1-losseruimte, 2 l [telt als 1 st], (1 l, 2 st) in dezelfde ruimte. In deze en alle hoekruimtes maak je (1 st, 2 l, 1 st). Maak een dv-st in elke 1-lossenruimte van de vorige ronde. Herhaal helemaal rond, maak een st in de lossenruimte waarin je bent gestart, sluit de ronde met een hv in de 2e l van de begin lossen.
Ronde 5: maak een v in de 1-losseruimte, 2 l [telt als 1 st], (1 l, 2 st) in dezelfde ruimte. In deze en alle hoekruimtes maak je (1 st, 1 l, 4 st, 1 l, 1 st). Maak een dv-st in elke 1-losseruimte van de vorige ronde. Herhaal helemaal rond, maak een st in de lossenruimte waarin je bent gestart, sluit de ronde met een hv in de 2e l van de begin lossen.

If your stitch count was 1 or 2 stitches off, you may need to skip 2 or 4 stitches somewhere along the side to get even.
Round 4: make an sc in the ch-1 space, ch 2 [counts as a dc], (ch 1, 2 dc) in the same space. In next and every corner space make (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc). Make a dv-st in every ch 1 space of the round below. Repeat all around, make a dc in the ch sp you started in, close with a ss in the 2nd ch of the first ch 2.
