The Bali square is the base of the Bali bag. Inspired by the 50 shades of green on this beautiful island, but I think this bag would look perfect in any colour combination!

The Bali square is crocheted in rounds. I changed colour after each round, but making it unicolour also works!
Het Bali vierkant wordt gehaakt in rondes. Ik wisselde elke ronde van kleur, maar het vierkant helemaal in 1 kleur maken werkt natuurlijk ook.
Round 1:
Chain 4, make an ss in the first ch to form a circle. In the circle make 1 sc + ch 2 [counts as 1 dc], make 15 dc (16 stitches in total). Close the round (see explanation ‘closing a round‘)
Ronde 1:
4 lossen, halve vaste in de 1e losse om een cirkel te maken. In de cirkel maak je 1 vaste + 2 lossen [telt als 1 stokje], maak nog 15 stokjes (16 stokjes in totaal). Sluit de ronde (zie verderop de foto uitleg ‘een ronde sluiten’).
Round 2:
Attach a new colour, make 1 sc. Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through first 2 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through both loops on the hook. This is your first dc2tog. * Ch 2, dc2tog in the next stitch, dc2tog in the next stitch. Repeat from * all around, close the round. (16 dc-cl, 8 ch2 spaces total)
Ronde 2:
Start met een nieuwe kleur, maak 1 vaste, 1 stokje in dezelfde steek [telt samen als clustersteek], * 2 lossen, clustersteek in volgende steek, clustersteek in volgende steek. Herhaal vanaf * tot je helemaal rond bent, sluit de ronde (16 clustersteken, 8 lossenruimtes).
Round 3:
This round you are not crocheting in the stitches but in the chain spaces from the previous round.
Attach new colour in a ch-2 space with an sc+ch 2 [counts as 1 dc], 1 dc in that same space, * (4 dc, 2 ch, 4 dc) in the next space, 4 dc in the next space. Repeat from * all around, at the last repeat, end with 2 dc in the first space. Close the round.
Ronde 3:
Deze ronde haak je niet in de steken maar in de lossenruimtes van de vorige ronde.
Met een nieuwe kleur haak je in een lossenruimte 1 vaste + 2 lossen [telt als 1 stokje], 1 stokje in diezelfde ruimte, * (4 stokjes, 1 lossen, 4 stokjes) in de volgende ruimte, 4 stokjes in de volgende ruimte. Herhaal vanaf * helemaal rond, eindig de laatste herhaling met 2 stokjes in de eerste lossenruimte. Sluit de ronde.
Round 4:
This round is crocheted in the chain spaces and in the spaces between 2 groups of 4 dc from round 3.
Attach a new colour in a space between 2 groups of 4 dc, right before the corner space and make 1 sc + ch 2 [counts as 1 dc]. 1 dc in that same space, * (4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc) in the ch2-space, 4 dc in each of the next 2 spaces. Repeat from * all around, at the last repeat end with 2 dc in the first space. Close the round.
Ronde 4:
Deze ronde haak je in de lossenruimtes en in de ruimte tussen 2 groepjes van 4 stokjes uit ronde 3.
Met een nieuwe kleur start je in de ruimte tussen twee groepjes van 4 stokjes vóór de hoek lossenruimte. Maak 1 vaste + 2 lossen [telt als 1 stokje]. 1 stokje in diezelfde ruimte, * (4 stokjes, 2 lossen, 4 stokjes) in de lossenruimte, 4 stokjes in elk van de twee ruimtes hierna. Herhaal vanaf * helemaal rond, eindig de laatste herhaling met 2 stokjes in de eerste ruimte. Sluit de ronde.
Round 5:
Attach a new colour in a stitch, make an sc in every stitch all around, in the ch-2-spaces in the corners make (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc). Close the round.
Ronde 5:
Hecht een nieuwe kleur aan met een halve vaste in een steek, maak een vaste in elke steek helemaal rond, in de lossenruimtes in de hoeken maak je (1 vaste, 2 lossen, 1 vaste). Sluit de ronde.
