From the moment I first opened the 2023 yarn advent from Olivia and Oliver fibers I knew what I wanted to create. And yes, that would mean another sock yarn blanket. The advent was themed ‘simply sweet’ and every skein was designed to represent a cake. So I wanted this to be a blanket with small motifs that all could be a perfect little cake in itself. The Simply Sweet Blanket was born.
Fast forward to 2025 and the blanket is finally finished! Crocheting a blanket with sock yarn can be a long process. But the best thing is: this blanket can be made in any type of yarn and is especially suited for leftovers, so do what feels good for you!
Vanaf het moment dat ik het garen advent van Olivia and Oliver fibers openmaakte wist ik wat ik er van wilde maken. En ja, dat betekende dat ik opnieuw een deken ging maken van sokkengaren. Het adventpakket had als thema ‘simply sweet’, en elke streng was zo ontworpen dat het moest lijken op een taart. Daarom wilde ik een deken maken met kleine hexies die elk op zichzelf een klein, perfect taartje zouden kunnen zijn. De Simply Sweet deken was geboren.
Maak een sprong in de tijd naar 2025 en de deken is eindelijk klaar. Een deken haken van sokkengaren kan heel lang duren. Maar het fijne is wel: deze deken kun je maken in elk type garen en is echt perfect voor het ophaken van je restjes, dus kies er eentje die bij jou past!

Stitches and abbreviations
This pattern uses a couple of different stitches.
Stitches and abbreviations (US terms):
- Chain (ch): yarn over, pull yarn through loop on hook
- Slip stitch (ss): insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through and through loop on hook
- Single crochet (sc): insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through, yarn over, pull trough both loops on the hook
- Double crochet (dc): yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through, yarn over, pull through first two loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through remaining loops on the hook
- Double crochet cluster stitch (2dc-cl): yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through, yarn over, pull through first two loops on the hook, yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through, yarn over, pull through first two loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through all loops on the hook
- Crab stitch (cr-st): insert hook in the first stitch on the right, yarn over, pull yarn through, yarn over, pull through both loops on the hook. Please note this stitch is worked from left to right (if right handed).
Gebruikte steken en afkortingen:
- Losse (l): draad omslaan, haal door lus op de naald
- Halve vaste (hv): naald door steek, draad omslaan, doorhalen en gelijk ook door de lus op de naald halen
- Vaste (v): naald door de steek, draad omslaan, haal de lus op, draad omslaan, haal door beide lussen op de naald
- Stokje (st): draad omslaan, naald door steek, draad omslaan, haal de lus op, draad omslaan, haal door de eerste twee lussen op de naald, draad omslaan, haal door alle lussen op de naald
- Cluster steek (cl): draad omslaan, naald door steek, draad omslaan, haal de lus op, draad omslaan, haal door eerste twee lussen op de naald, draad omslaan, naald door dezelfde steek, draad omslaan, lus ophalen, draad omslaan, haal door eerste twee lussen op de naald, draad omslaan, haal door alle lussen op de naald
- Krab steek: steek naald door de eerste steek aan de rechterkant, draad omslaan, lus ophalen, draad omslaan, haal door beide lussen op de naald. Let op: deze steek gaat van links naar rechts (als je rechtshandig haakt)
The simply sweet hexie
- if you change colour each round, start each round with a standing sc. Have a look here for a photo tutorial on how to end each round
1. Make a magic ring. In the ring you make (2 dc-cl, ch 2) 6 times. Close the round
2. Attach new colour in a chain space with standing sc + ch 1, in that same space make (1 dc, ch 1, 2dc-cl, ch 2), * in the next space make (2dc-cl, ch 1, 2dc-cl, ch 2). Repeat from * all around, close the round.
3. Attach new colour in a ch2-space with standing sc + ch 1, in that same space make (1 dc, ch 2, 2dc-cl), * ch 1, 2dc-cl in the next ch1-space, ch 1, (2dc-cl, ch 2, 2dc-cl) in the next ch-2 space. Repeat from * all around, end with a ch 1, close the round.
4. Attach new colour in a ch2-space with standing sc + ch 1, in that same space make (dc, ch 2, 2dc-cl), * ch 1, 2dc-cl, in the next ch1-space, ch 1, 2dc-cl in the next ch1-space, ch 1, in the next ch-2 space make (2dc-cl, ch2, 2dc-cl). Keep repeating from * all around, end with a ch 1, close the round.
5. Attach yarn in a ch2-space with a standing sc + ch 3 [counts as 1 dc + 2 ch here and throughout], in that same space make 2 dc, * (2 dc in the next space) 3 times, in the ch2-space make (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc). Repeat from * all around
De simply sweet hexagon
1. Maak een magische ring. In de ring haak je (cl, 2 l) 6 keer. Sluit de ronde.
2. Met een nieuwe kleur maak je in een lossenruimte 1 v + 1 l, in dezelfde ruimte maak je (1 st, 1 l, 1 cl, 2 l), * in de volgende ruimte maak je (cl, 1 l, cl, 2 l). Herhaal vanaf * helemaal rond, sluit de ronde.
3. Met een nieuwe kleur maak je in een 2-lossenruimte 1 v + 1 l, in dezelfde ruimte maak je (1 st, 2 l, 1 cl), * 1 l, cl in volgende ruimte, 1 l, (1 cl, 2 l, 1 cl) in volgende ruimte. Herhaal vanaf * helemaal rond, eindig met 1 l. Sluit de ronde.
4. Met nieuwe kleur maak je in een 2-lossenruimte 1 v + 1 l, in diezelfde ruimte maak je (1 st, 2 l, 1 cl), * 1 l, 1 cl in de vogende ruimte, 1 l, 1 cl in de volgende ruimte, 1 l, (1 cl, 2 l, 1 cl) in de volgende ruimte. 5. Hecht het garen aan in een 2-lossenruimte met 1 v + 3 l [telt als 1 st + 2 l], in dezelfde ruimte maak je 2 st, * (2 st in de volgende ruimte) 3 keer, in de 2-lossenruimte maak je (2 st, 2 l, 2 st). Herhaal vanaf * helemaal rond
