Using mohair in a project has been high on my wishlist since like forever, but somehow I never dared to use it. I heard all the warnings about mohair being one of the most difficult yarns to work with.
So one morning I decided I just had to try and I went for it. And yes, the yarn is difficult to work with and frogging is not as easy as with other yarns but I think this pattern is the perfect pattern for beginners. It uses easy stitches and repeats and at the same time the colour blocks make this scarf look amazing. And (and that is the definite plus side of mohair) it is extremely light and soft. Kun je geloven dat ik in al die jaren nog nooit iets met mohair heb gehaakt? Het stond al tijden op mijn wensenlijstje, maar ik durfde het nooit, vooral omdat je altijd hoort dat het een van de moeilijkste garens is om mee te werken.
Op een goede dag besloot ik dat het nu tijd werd om het gewoon eens te proberen. En ja, het is een ingewikkeld garen om mee te werken, het raakt makkelijk in de knoop en uithalen is lastig. Maar, zolang je het jezelf niet te moeilijk maakt is het goed te doen. En dat is precies wat dit patroon probeert. Met simpele steken en herhalingen en tegelijkertijd de afwisseling met de gekleurde blokken heb je snel een mooie sjaal gemaakt. Een sjaal die ook nog eens ontzettend licht en zacht is, want dat is wel echt het grote voordeel van mohair. Het garen dat ik gebruikte kun je hier vinden.
